"Alice in Fragonard's Swing" is the title - one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland paintings I've done yet (actually one of my favourite paintings of any kind I've done yet)! This is the ninth painting in my sub-series called "Alice in Other Lands" which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances, thrown into settings inspired by my love of art history (be sure to check out the other installments honoring Bosch, Velázquez, Brueghel, da Vinci and more). Here we have my Alice on the set of one of the most beautiful and famous paintings in the world - "The Swing" from they year 1767 by Jean-Honoré Fragonard - the epitome of French Rococo painting! Here we have Aliceon the swing - the white rabbit, dodo bird, cheshire cat (he is in here twice), playing cards - several Alice references. I had a lot of fun with this one! The original painting itself of "Alice in Fragonard's Swing" as well as the Limited Edition Gallery Canvases are exclusive at Pop Gallery in Downtown West Side® in Walt World Resort® here in Florida (where she debuted!). My own original acrylic painting.

"At the Masquerade Ball" - painted this one around Mardi Gras ... Carneval ... Masquerades! I've painted a beautiful big eyed maiden in an elaborate dress (in the traditional Purple, Green, and Gold of the New Orleans Mardi Gras!) - at a masquerade ball. Masked characters set the scene behind her - including a Plague Doctor sneaking in on the side. Beautiful Venetian masks. The colors in this are subtle, but the greens and violets (particularly her violet eyes!) really "pop" and bring it together. I LOVE this painting!!! This is my own original acrylic painting.

Dress of Sinners, Dress of Saints is evocative of medieval/Renaissance era altarpiece paintings. Inspired by the colours in an "Old Masters" kind of technique with a full grisaille underpainting and subsequent hundreds of layers of acrylic glazing over the course of 13 months. On the left are the "Sinners" (referencing medieval/Renaissance depictions of hellish scenes, demons, monsters, etc.) and on the right are the "Saints" (referencing medieval/Renaissance depictions of angels, saints, glorious religious pageantry, etc.). The background is intentionally evoking those marvelous Patinir rocky cliffs depicted frequently in Flemish landscapes of that period.

This painting is part of my "Alice in Other Lands" sub-series containing countless homages & parodies of master paintings throughout the centuries. Backyard birds! I have been striving to make my backyard a very nice habitat for wild birds (and am succeeding immensely!), they bring so much joy to my life. Sometimes I think some of the most "common" birds are so beautiful and often overlooked, so I decided to honour them with this painting. A cardinal, a blue jay, a nuthatch, a sparrow and a chickadee! And a fairy friend - of course! This is my own original acrylic painting.

Fairy with Dried Flowers - a particularly lovely - a beautiful nymph-like fairy is sitting in a murky forest glade. She has a look of sweet melancholy about her, and if you look closely you will see that she has a garland of dried up flowers in her hands. I think that at some time in her life the garland was in full bloom, perhaps to mark an important occasion, and she has held onto it for sentimental value even though it is long past its prime. Made from my own original acrylic painting.

Rainbow Sherbet! A colourful and tasty treat that always reminds me of when I was a kid. We'd buy this big tub of generic brand rainbow sherbet at the grocery store for like a dollar and it would last forever. SOME people would dig out all of one colour and we'd like get a bunch of leftover orange. The colours in rainbow sherbet give me a weird nostalgic feeling to this day. I've reflected the colour scheme in the hues of this lovely big eyed fairy - looks like she's getting ready to enjoy her own discount sundae herself! This is my own original acrylic painting.
