Shinjuku Angel gothic Tokyo fairy Shirt
Shinjuku Angel - I went to Japan a few months back (had a FANTASTIC time) - and was struck by the hyper urban style and energy of Tokyo. We had a great night out in Shinjuku which is a crazy nightspot by the busiest trainstation in the world. This inspired this painting - "Shinjuku Angel" - I've always thought that urban faeries and angels would hang out around the human crossroads of trainstations. This was fun to paint - all that neon! Shinjuku Angel looks a little overwhelmed, a little lost - but dressed to the hilt and with a great attitude - reflections of Shinjuku itself. Made from my own original acrylic painting. "Mechanical Angel I" Notebook
Mechanical Angel I - the FIRST in a new series - a Steampunk series - called "Mechanical Angels" (and this one is the first in the series - all will be different but feature simialr clockwork/gothic themes). This first painting - "Mechanical Angel I" features a gorgeous big eyed angel girl - quite doll-like - with wings right out of Da Vinci's notebook, and a plethora of clockwork gears and scientific implements around her. She even has a glowing butterfly in some sort of stasis container. This piece looks even prettier in person - the "glowing" blue-green lights almost do seem to glow amongst the subtle coluration of the mechanics. My own original acrylic painting.

"Alice in a Dali Dream" by Jasmine Becket-Griffith Postcard
"Alice in a Dali Dream" is the title - this was a very fun one to do - one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland paintings I've done yet! This is the ninth painting in my sub-series called "Alice in Other Lands" which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances, thrown into settings inspired by my love of art history (be sure to check out the other installments honoring Bosch, Velázquez, Brueghel, da Vinci and more). This of course is a bit of a parody / homage to Spanish Surrealist (and fellow sometime Floridian artist) Salvador Dali! Here we have my Alice with nods to countless Dali references - the lobster telephone, swans reflecting elephants, more elephants on stilts, and of course melting clocks as in the 1931 masterpiece "Persistence of Memory." Dali himself was a big Alice fan, so the combination of the two works out well! My own original acrylic painting.

"Snow White and Rose Red" Postcard
This painting - "Snow White and Rose Red" is for my long-awaited Fairytale Oracle deck project with Lucy Cavendish & Blue Angel Publishing. As Snow White and Rose Red is about two peasant girls, this is intentionally a nod to William Bouguereau, 1800s French painter who is the master of peasant-girl paintings, hehe. These two sisters are shown early in the story (not to be confused with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - a completely UNRELATED story of a character with a similarly translated name, ahem, this is about two sisters who befriend a bear - check it out!), Snow White has light clothing and hair, Rose Red has the darker, redder colours, and this corresponds with their two forest friends - a cardinal bird and a chickadee! I love this piece, be sure to look for it in my upcoming Fairytale Oracle deck. My own original acrylic painting, prints & canvases are also available.

Unseelie Court: Death by Jasmine Becket-Griffith Poster
The third painting in a series I'm debuting called "The Unseelie Court" - specifically for the subset inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - this is the piece I painted "live" as a demostration at my gallery at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Each painting in my Unseelie Court series depicts important individuals or families within the Unseelie Court. Exploring the darker side of the Fairy Court, the Unseelie faeries take their theming from slightly unpleasant aspects of the magical and natural world. But of course despite being wicked they will have a beautiful and refinded elegance about them.... This particular painting in the series symbolizes "Death". I tried to use a variety of death imagery from many cultures and centuries past - pre-Columbian Central American carvings, Egyptian Book of the Dead, medieval/renaissance Europe and beyond (her scythe has a distinctly contemporary video game feel...). So many great references in this one, really speaks to the Art History nerd in me (especially Saturn Eating His Children in her skirts, and the Burial at Ornans funeral). "Delusions of Grandeur" Postcard
"Delusions of Grandeur" - a piece that debuted as part of the group show "What Big Eyes You Have" in Orlando. "Delusions of Grandeur" is one of my favourite psychiatric terms, referring to one has an over-inflated notion of their self-importance. This painting reflects this somewhat - on first impression it may appear to be a simple lovely Rococo portrait, but upon closer inspection you will notice that it is all a facade - the mural is peeling, the mirror is cracked, the fabric is torn and stained, the fruit is attracting flies and nothing is quite as grand as it first may seem. "Carnevale di Morte" Postcard
"Carnevale di Morte" - this is my illustration for the 78 Tarot's "Carnival" deck. I was assigned the "Death" card, and as it's carnival themed I've gone the Venetian masquerade route on this one, and I love it! I've given her a dark red dress (it kind of has a Masque of the Red Death feel to it). The background has an Italianate feel. The skeleton guy on the horse skeleton is based on a very old anatomy etching I came across. As it needed to encompass the Tarot Death card themes as well as the Carnival theme, there are small dancing masked figures or skeletons circling around her, and death on his skeletal horse in the distance. My Plague Doctor / Alchemist character (he appears in a lot of my works) is looming behind her. Love this piece - stay tuned for the Carnival deck from the team at 78 Tarot - it's going to be wonderful! My own acrylic painting, the original has sold but we have prints & canvases available.
