This pair of red-shouldered hawks sits perched on a tree branch draped with Spanish moss where the subtle yet rich color patterns of the wings of these majestic birds can be admired. These birds of prey may have been the most common species of hawk or falcon in North America in the 1900's. Now, although they are not considered endangered or threatened, there are much fewer of these raptors due to a loss of habitat. Here in Florida, they are still the most common hawk seen. It just goes to show the power of nature and determination to thrive. These hawks mate for life and work together to raise their young, proving that two powerful individuals can be better together. This artwork is a stunning reminder of the power of determination and perseverance as well as the beauty and power of nature. (This is Plate 56 of John James Audubon's Birds of America series.)
